Terms and Conditions

1. What is The World Environment Council (WEC)?

The WEC is a service that aims to connect all members before, during, and after their experience by providing them with access to benefits. The WEC also provides support and resources to members/NGOs/organizations/volunteers and staff. Member benefits may take the form of opportunities for members to connect through forums provided by the WEC, or be resources specific to your type of membership.

2. Agreement and Amendment of Terms

To be a member of the WEC, you must agree to the membership terms and conditions. The membership terms and conditions may be amended at any time by giving a notice of more than 14 days before the effective date of the change (by email or notification to a membership account) and posting the said amendment on the WEC website. Amendments to the membership terms apply to each member. Post amendment of the membership terms, continued membership will be taken as implied agreement to the said amendment(s). If a member does not agree with any of the amendment(s), they can terminate their membership by giving a written notice of termination.

3. Membership

Eligibility and Applying for Membership

To apply for membership, you must meet the eligibility criteria mentioned on the WEC website, complete the membership application, pay the application fee (if applicable), and agree to the membership terms. To assess your eligibility criteria, you may be required to provide further information to support your application or contact a relevant third-party, such as an NGO, organization, or volunteers. The eligibility criteria may differ based on the type of membership you choose. WEC has the sole discretion, acting reasonably, to accept or reject any membership application. Once your application is accepted, membership will not start until you complete all required registration requirements, including paying any fees, if applicable. Once accepted, membership cannot be transferred.

4. Member Obligations

Each member must act honestly, fairly, and reasonably in all matters connected with the WEC. Without limiting this obligation, each member:

  • must promptly inform the WEC in case of any change to the details submitted in their membership application
  • must not attempt to transfer or otherwise deal with any member benefit other than in accordance with the membership terms
  • must not abuse or misuse any member benefit or use it for any inappropriate, illegal, or unlawful activity
  • must comply with any applicable acceptable use, rules of participation, or similar policies in place for using member benefits
  • must not engage in any behavior (in communicating with other members) that could reasonably be interpreted as an intention to bully, intimidate, or harass
  • must not, in using any forums provided by the WEC, post any content that could reasonably be interpreted to be hate speech, defamatory, malicious, threatening or pornographic, inciting violence, or containing nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence
  • must not undertake any action that could damage the reputation of the WEC
  • must not make any representations on behalf of the WEC without prior approval in writing (for example, a member cannot organize any event in the name of the WEC without prior written approval from the WEC)
  • must regularly check their membership account and promptly notify the WEC of any discrepancies within three months of the relevant transaction
  • must provide information as reasonably requested (to assist the WEC in verifying eligibility for any member benefit).

5. Termination of Membership

Once membership to the WEC is granted, you are entitled to remain a member until you or the WEC terminates your membership in accordance with this clause.

A member may terminate their membership of the WEC at any time by advising the WEC in writing. If a member breaches the membership terms that the WEC, acting reasonably, considers to be a serious breach, then the WEC may, at their discretion, give the member a warning, suspend the membership for a definite period, or terminate the membership. A serious breach, for example, can include a breach of any requirement specifically listed under Member Obligations, or a breach of Clause 4 (Use of Content).

Your membership may be terminated at any time if the WEC decides to cease operations or a substantial part of operations. In such cases, the WEC may terminate membership by issuing a notice in writing to each current member. Notice may be sent to the member's email provided in the member details or posted to the member's account.

Termination of membership does not entitle the member to a refund of any application fee. Any refund for third-party supplies will be governed by the agreement between the member and the supplier of the third-party supplies.

If you hold a University Staff Membership (as defined in clause 5), and your institution ends its partnership or otherwise ends its subscription, the WEC reserves the right to terminate your membership immediately.

6. Membership Types and Benefits

Membership Types

  • An individual can only be a member of one membership type at any given time.
  • A member may upgrade their membership type from a lower type to a higher type by notifying the WEC, completing the online form, and paying the relevant fees
  • A member cannot downgrade their membership type from a higher type to a lower type
  • An individual who is a staff member (academic or mobility professional) of an institution or University partnered with and/or subscribed to the WEC will be classified as holding a University Staff Member membership type.

Member Benefits

  • Member benefits for each membership type are set out on the WEC website. The WEC reserves the right to change member benefits at any time depending on membership preferences, availability, and cost
  • Each member benefit is available subject to specific terms identified for that benefit. Once a benefit is selected, the member is taken to have agreed to the terms applying to that member benefit
  • On occasion, special offers, such as special events and competitions, may be made available to members. Each special offer is provided subject to the terms identified for that offer
  • A member may need to complete an application or other process and pay fees to be entitled to a member benefit
  • A member benefit may be a third-party supply—to the extent permitted by law, the WEC has no liability whatsoever to any member for the provision, non-provision, or any defect with the third-party supply.
  • On occasion, there may be an outage on the WEC website and/or portal (e.g., when maintenance is conducted). During this time, member benefits, membership accounts, and access to web-based resources and services may not be available.
